Looking for a more economical way to cruise?

Royal Caribbean offers discounts on unsold cabins to fill the ship prior to sailing. These are called "Guaranteed" cabins. The way it works is that they guarantee you a cabin in the category you choose - Interior, Window View, Balcony - but you don't get to choose your room. They assign it to you before boarding from among the unsold cabins.

Here's the catch: Not always, but sometimes these cabins are located next to noisy venues (elevators or food prep areas) or perhaps they are on a lower deck or have a window or balcony with an obstructed view.

You don't get to choose your cabin and you can't change it once onboard. But you can save a few dollars, and really, are there any bad cabins when you're cruising in the Mexican Riviera?
